Who shows up

Hi, I'm Peter.

I started Kavia after my uncle missed two scheduled surgeries because the logistics around his procedure became too much to manage alone.

Kavia exists to make sure logistics never stand in the way of care.

The person you book is the person who shows up.

Frequently asked questions.

Rideshare drivers don't wait, don't check in, and aren't accepted as a responsible adult by most facilities. Many procedures require a qualified adult to take the handoff from the nursing staff. Kavia is a registered, insured companion service. I handle the entire day, not just the ride home.

Most facilities require a competent adult, usually 18 or older, who can wait through the procedure, receive your discharge instructions directly from the nursing staff, and get you home safely. They typically can't be a paid driver-only service like Uber or Lyft. As your registered companion, I check in under your name, take the handoff, and stay with you through the door at home.

Any outpatient procedure that requires a responsible adult — colonoscopy, cataract surgery, MOHS, dental sedation under IV/oral, GI endoscopy, knee arthroscopy, hernia repair, orthopedic injections, plastic procedures, and more. If your physician told you to bring someone, I'm that someone. Tell me your procedure when you book and I'll confirm I've covered the facility before your day.

Yes. I park, walk in with you, and check in at the front desk as your responsible adult. I stay in the waiting area for the whole procedure. When the nurse is ready, I take your discharge instructions in person and write them down, because most people don't remember that conversation clearly. I don't go into the procedure room and I'm not part of your medical care.

No. I am a registered companion, not medical staff. I do not give medical advice, handle medication, or provide hands-on help. What I do is handle everything around your procedure: the ride, check-in, waiting through it, taking your discharge instructions from the nursing staff, the pharmacy stop, and getting you home. Kavia is registered with Florida AHCA as a Homemaker and Companion Service, Registration No. 241656.

Nothing changes. It's a flat $250 whether you're in for ninety minutes or five hours. I don't bill by the hour, so a delay costs you nothing and I'm not watching a clock. Surgical delays are part of the job.

Your booking moves with it, free. Surgeons reschedule and facilities shift times, and that isn't your problem to pay for. Call or email me as soon as you know and I'll move you to the new date if I'm available. If I'm not, you get a full refund.

Your surgeon's timeline comes first. If your physician or the facility postpones or reschedules your procedure, I'll move your booking to your new date at no charge, whenever it happens, including on the day, and I don't need documentation. For any other reason: cancel more than 48 hours before your procedure and there's no charge at all: a full refund if you've paid, nothing owed if you were paying cash on the day. Within 48 hours it's 50%, because I've held the date and turned other work away. Call, text or email. There's no form and you don't need to give a reason.

I maintain backup coverage so your procedure day isn't disrupted. If I can't make your appointment, I make every reasonable effort to send a trained backup companion under the same terms. If I can't cover you, or you'd rather not go ahead with someone else, you receive a full refund. You will never be left to find someone the night before.

Yes, and you can check all of it before you book. I'm registered with Florida AHCA as a Homemaker and Companion Services provider, Registration No. 241656. I carry $1M general liability and $500K non-owned auto coverage, and I've passed Florida Level 2 background screening, which AHCA requires for work with vulnerable adults. Every document opens in one click, higher up this page.

Most likely yes. Outpatient surgery companion services qualify as a medical expense under most HSA and FSA plans. You receive a detailed receipt the same evening, typically all your plan administrator needs. Confirm with your administrator first if you want to be certain about your plan.

Four steps, and most people finish in one sitting. The form takes your name, phone, facility and procedure date, then sends you straight to your agreement. You read the terms, sign electronically, and either pay by card or choose to pay cash on the day. If you would rather talk it through before you sign, tick the callback box on the form and I will call you first. If your procedure is tomorrow or the next day, call me instead of using the form.

Pasco and Pinellas Counties only, about 52 outpatient facilities across 16 cities from Wesley Chapel to St. Petersburg. There's no mileage charge anywhere inside those two counties. If your facility is just outside them, call me and I'll tell you honestly whether I can help.
